Vein color is the most common way buyers communicate about kratom, and also the most misunderstood. The color of the vein is a reflection of the drying process and maturity of the leaf, which together shape the alkaloid profile and the character of the final product.
What the colors mean
- Red vein — leaves dried to a darker state, typically with a fuller alkaloid ratio and darker powder color.
- Green vein — indoor-dried leaves retaining a balanced, consistent profile and vibrant green color.
- White vein — lighter, shade-dried leaves with a delicate profile and fine texture.
- Yellow vein — produced through a dedicated drying cycle that naturally develops the yellow coloration.
Choosing for your market
There is no objectively "best" vein — only the right profile for the segment you serve. Retail brands often carry a core green vein product for consistency, add a red for a distinct profile, and use white or yellow as specialty lines. Wholesale buyers should sample each vein and match the alkaloid data to their target customer rather than relying on color labels alone.
